The Red Balloon -28 months

I am absolutely in love with the 1950's film and book The Red Balloon. Henry adores balloons so i thought this would be a fun craft to do for the day. We first read the book and explained the friendship between the two.
I love living next to a library because i order nearly every book we check out from there. After reading this book we watched the film together. Brilliant might i say.

Here is a shot i took while watching the film. so adorable.

after finishing, we decided to recreate a balloon friend ourselves! Here is Henry getting ready to paint. Daddy drew a beautiful balloon for us on a large sheet of Water Color paper.

we cut it out and made crooked string to connect. Henry is mesmerized.

"You got a friend in me...You got a friend in me"

I then took the moment to teach about "Air". How do we use it, where can we see it...etc. I then showed Henry how to blow up a balloon. He, of course, just mimicked me here in this shot.

He wanted the two to be friends!

Diaper Snow-28 months

Using one of lil Hans' diapers we were able to recreate "snow"! peel the inside, place in bowl, and add water.
he loves to carefully pour water into bowls.
there he goes a mixing.
he was definitely hesitant to put his hands in the mush. i had to jump in before he'd do it. he's a texture boy like his mama.
i thought he'd enjoy the activity more with his friends(Moon Knight and Star Trooper).
added a few words to the mix and, voila, a great easy lesson. I then gave him an additional bowl of water and allowed him to transfer the snow to more water using the measuring cup. He spent a good 45 minutes on this activity!

High to Low Sounds -28 months

i checked out this book called Science Play from the library. It is the beginning discoveries for 2-6 year olds. Henry and I did our first experiment using some old soda bottles, water, and food coloring.I had Henry tap each bottle and tell me which one is "higher pitched" than another. I don't know if he quite understood and begin treating them like drums! :)bang bang.

Blowing into each bottle reversed the effect. The one that was the highest was now the lowest. Again, i don't know if he understood but thankful i exposed him to the idea.
This activity required very little time and little clean up. It entertained my son for about 20 minutes start to finish. Overall, we enjoyed it.

The Man Who Walked Between the Towers

A great book about the man who walked between the two towers.

Henry's loving every page.
Let's do it!

Spiderman gives it a go.

Now Wolverine.

He stops traffic. Fireman and policeman are trying to stop him!

alas, Wolverine is arrested and taken to jail.

Such a fun way to imbed the book in my sons' mind. We had a lot of fun dramatizing it too.

Snowman making from recycled papers

Inspired from the book Snowballs, Henry and I decided to make our own snowman from recycled scraps we had around the house.

He was proud.

love this martha stewart circle cutter

gluing his circles together
i punched out circles and other shapes from an old Vogue magazine to make the snowman accessories.
added a spelling lesson to the activity. S for snowman
